The Warren Axe & Tool Company was founded by William J. Sager in 1893.  In 1895 Sager was issued a patent for a chemical treatment that was intended to reduce oxidation and prolong the finish of the metal that it was applied to.  This became known as the iconic "Sager Chemical Treatment Process" proudly advertised with the famous Sager Chemical line of axes.  
 
The  Warren Axe & Tool Co. remained in existence until 1950 when it was sold to Collins & Co. of Collinsville, Connecticut. Collins continued to use the Warren plant until 1958 at which time they sold off all the equipment and property.
 
Collins relinquished all the Warren brands and patterns when they subsequently sold out to the Mann Edge Tool Co. of Lewistown. Pennsylvania in 1966.
