Vintage Axe Oil

$24.00Price

Vintage Brands offers the only commercially available, naturally and truly boiled, linseed oil on the market.

Linseed oil is the industrial name for flax seed oil and is one of the best natural wood preservatives.  But did you know that boiled linseed oil is not actually boiled?  All "boiled" linseed oil you see on the shelf today at any hardware or big box store in the United States is treated with toxic metallic chemical dryers and additives like beryllium, chromium, cadmium, nickel, japan dryer, turpentine, cobalt, lead, manganese, zinc, zirconium, bismuth, lithium, aluminum and barium to name a few.

These examples of metallic dryers are used to accelerate the drying of paints, inks and coatings (linseed) by catalyzing the oxidation of drying oils.  These chemicals simulate the effect you would get by just boiling flax oil.  Then why isn't it actually boiled?  Profit.  It takes more time and energy to heat and cool a large amount of oil, when instead it can be chemically treated in just minutes.  Raw linseed oil can take 3-6 weeks or more to fully polymerize.  Chemically treated linseed oil usually takes 24-48 hours.  Our naturally boiled linseed oil fully polymerizes in just 8-18 hours depending on temperature and humidity!

Why should you care about chemicals?  If you're using off the shelf "boiled" linseed oil for any wood preservation project, it is inevitable that some of the oil will transfer to your skin.  Anything that touches your skin also absorbs into your bloodstream rather easily and almost immediately.  Out of the need for a pure, organically safe option, Vintage Axe Oil was born.

Our linseed oil contains nothing except for flax oil that has been heated to allow it to polymerize faster once exposed to air.  Why wonder what's in other chemical oils when you know exactly what's in ours:  All natural Linseed Oil.

That's it!  Our naturally boiled linseed oil is not only better for the environment and all living things, but it even dries faster and looks better than the toxic alternatives.
