History of PLUMB

PLUMB was founded by Fayette R. Plumb in 1887. Throughout the 1900's, PLUMB had a strong reputation as one of the best axe and hammer brands. With their iconic red handles and tried & true innovations like PERMABOND, the Take-Up Wedge and their iconic red handles, PLUMB axes gained a reputation for quality tools.

The iconic PLUMB red was created to be reminiscent of the color of plum fruit. This helped PLUMB axes and other tools to stand out from the crowd, but also provided a durable finish that protected hickory handles and helped them to last a lifetime.

ABOUT OUR STAIN

We've painstakingly created our PLUMB red finish to be an exact match of the original PLUMB red used on all tools from 1920 until 1971. In addition to the stain, we include the protective top coat as well.

These two 4oz jars form a two part process that goes a long way, covering up to four, 36" axe handles. Apply the PLUMB red with a brush or wearing rubber gloves. After letting the stain dry for 24 hours, apply the PLUMB finish which forms a rock hard overcoat that bonds with the red stain to create a finish that will last generations.

Application instructions included.
