E.C. SIMMONS - KEEN KUTTER
In 1859 Edward Campbell Simmons entered the hardware firm, Wilson Levering and Waters, as a clerk. Through Edward's can-do attitude, that business eventually evolved into E.C. Simmons and Co. Simmons first product initiative as a new owner was to build a better axe. In 1865 he found master axe maker Isaiah Blood to forge the Keen Kutter axes.
The Keen Kutter logo was first applied to high grade axes but later it was the trademark for all superior lines of merchandise sold by Simmons Hardware. Simmons successfully developed the company into one of the most extensive corporations of its kind, manufacturing and wholesaling just about every piece of hardware concievable. In later years, (post 1900), American Axe & Tool, Mann Edge Tool Co. and Kelly Axe Mfg. Co. all made axes for E.C. Simmons.
E.C. Simmons policy was; If it wasn‘t perfect, you got your money back. This lived up to its founder's slogan: "The Recollection of Quality Remains Long After The Price Is Forgotten."
