American Axe & Tool - Sager Special Chemical Process Axe (Older Desi
HISTORY
The Warren Axe & Tool Company was founded by William J. Sager, M. T. Christopher (Sager's son-in-law) and W. T. Dana in 1893.
In 1895 William J. Sager, then of Warren, Pennsylvania, was issued a patent for a chemical treatment that was intended to reduce oxidation and prolong the finish of the metal that it was applied to. This became known by the marketing name of "SAGER CHEMICAL TREATMENT PROCESS". "SAGER" eventually became the name for their premier line of quality axes.
Warren Axe & Tool Co. remained in existence until 1950 when it was sold to Collins & Co. of Collinsville, Connecticut. Collins continued to use the Warren plant until 1958.
