HISTORY

The name "Forest King" may be the most popular name ever applied to an axe.  From the early 1900's all the way until the early 1980's, Forest King was used as the name on dozens of different lines of axes across many different manufacturers.  None, however, were quite as iconic or shrouded in mystery as this famous cartoon Forest King design.

This illustration was produced by a wholesaler operating as "Forest King" out of Seattle Washington from the 1960's until the 1970's.  Forest King had a wholesale agreement with Collins to private label axes with no stamp, painted with the Collins light blue.  Once the axes arrived in Seattle, the wholesaler applied their iconic Forest King sticker to the axe.

Mann Edge Tool Company bought out Collins in 1966 and continued producing these for Forest king.  Eventually when Mann Edge was no longer operating, Council Tool took over supplying Forest King with Council Tool stamped heads for a short period of time in the 1970's.
