HISTORY

The Warren Axe & Tool Company was founded by William J. Sager, M. T. Christopher (Sager's son-in-law) and W. T. Dana in 1893.

In 1895 William J. Sager, then of Warren, Pennsylvania, was issued a patent for a chemical treatment that was intended to reduce oxidation and prolong the finish of the metal that it was applied to.  This became known by the marketing name of "SAGER CHEMICAL TREATMENT PROCESS".   "SAGER" eventually became the name for their premier line of quality axes.

Warren Axe & Tool Co. remained in existence until 1950 when it was sold to Collins & Co. of Collinsville, Connecticut. Collins continued to use the Warren plant until 1958.

ABOUT CRUISER AXES

A timber cruiser was usually employed by a lumber company and walked the forest to estimate the potential lumber yield from standing timber on a specific tract of land.  They also marked out routes for accessing the area. The cruiser axe was smaller and lighter and less taxing to carry on long hikes, but also had double bit's that would last the length of the trek. Cruiser axe heads typically have a weight of 2 to 2.5 pounds, a width of 8 to 8.5 inches and a handle length of 28 inches.  The haft has a custom black stain and is finished with a light wipe of poly and Vintage Axe Oil and the head with a dab of Vintage Axe Wax.

About This Axe

This incredibly unique and rare cruiser axe is one of a kind!  The SAGER stamp is finished with stainless metal flake fill and has a matching stainless blue metal flake stain on the handle.  This blue metal flake finish offers a modern beauty that fits the modern style of this old axe head.  Axes with just the word "SAGER" were forged in Canada and are much rarer than the typical "Sager Chemical" axes you see.  The haft is coated with a light wipe of poly and Vintage Axe Oil and the head with a dab of Vintage Axe Wax.

This expertly restored, one of a kind, heirloom quality axe instantly turns heads and becomes the go-to conversation piece in your den, office or home.  Included with the purchase of the axe is a frame worthy writeup about it's history.
