HISTORY

In 1874 the W.C. KELLY company was formed and went on to become the greatest maker of iconic axes in the world.

In 1921 the Kelly Axe & Tool Co. purchased all the holdings and equipment, along with the rights to all the brands and labels, owned by the American Axe & Tool Co.

In 1930 the Kelly Axe & Tool Co. was purchased by the American Fork & Hoe Co. Axe production was continued under the new name of the Kelly Axe & Tool Works.

Eventually by 1949, American Fork & Hoe became known as True Temper. In 1987 the Kelly name was sold to Barco Industries where it remains today.

ABOUT THE AXE

Trade-Mark Patent No.18,084 issued on June 24, 1890 and the  KELLY "PERFECT" AXE was born.  This rare Kelly Perfect Axe was custom branded for Blish-Mize Hardware.

In 1871 three brothers-in-law founded Blish-Mize after making the long journey from Chicago to Atchison, Kansas. David Blish, Edward Mize, and Jack Silliman had big dreams and they worked hard to build a respected distributor to outfit wagon trains headed west from the Missouri River.  In just a few short years the company was distributing all types of goods to over 800 hardware stores, lumberyards, and general stores throughout the Midwest and is still in business today.  The haft is finished with a light wipe of poly and Vintage Axe Oil and the head with a dab of Vintage Axe Wax.

This expertly restored, heirloom quality axe instantly turns heads and becomes the go-to conversation piece in your den, office or home. Included with the purchase of the axe is a frame quality writeup about it's history.
