HISTORY

There is some debate as to the true origins of the iconic Fulton Clipper axe.  However, it is well known that  these axes had their own dedicated page in some of the early 1900's Sears Catalogs and were marketed as premium quality.

Theory One: The Fulton Tool Company was established in the town of "Canal Fulton" in Ohio in 1882.  They became known as a maker of high quality tools and often talked of using fine "Crucible Steel".  The etching on this particular axe head advertised "Silver Crucible Steel".  They advertised axes in their product line, but it is not conclusive whether they forged these axes themselves or had them outsourced.

Theory Two: The Kelly Axe Mfg. Co. is thought to have possibly forged these axes before Sears built their own axe forge. Sears "Fulton Tool" forge in Chicago was where they created their own tools and axes from about 1905 until 1927 when they adopted the "Craftsman" name.   Kelly was only one of a handful of axe makers that was set up to do this type of elaborate acid etching.  It is likely that even if Kelly didn't forge this axe, then it was possible that Kelly was contracted to do the etching.

ABOUT THE AXE

This very rare and early Fulton Clipper was acid etched over 100 years ago to create the timeless impression in the axe head.  We've treated the poll and cheeks to a lightly polished patina.  The temper is "blued from the line" to create a stunning and historical work of art.  The elaborate custom haft is finished with a light wipe of poly and Vintage Axe Oil and the head with a dab of Vintage Axe Wax.

This rare, expertly restored, heirloom quality axe instantly turns heads and becomes the go-to conversation piece in your den, office or home.  Included with the purchase of the axe is a frame quality writeup about it's history.
